It never ends

-I just got a call on the phone from a collection agency telling me that I have an outstanding OHSU Medical Group bill for $425 that needs to be paid. They told me that I could either make monthly payments of no less than $100 or pay the whole thing right now. They said if I made the monthly payments I'd accrue interest but if I paid it in full right now it wouldn't hurt my credit rating. So, I paid it in full and sunk myself that much deeper into debt. I thought about setting up payments, but I don't need another $100 in monthly bills. Besides, the interest on my Reserve Line isn't so bad and the monthly payments would be smaller, even after the $400 balance increase.

I still have no idea how this bill could go so long without me knowing that that it wasn't getting paid, but it happened. I've already been paying on a different OHSU Medical Group bill for years, so I would have figured that they would have known how to get ahold of me if they needed to. But they had my old address on file, and they claim they sent out 4 notices to my old address in Portland which, to the best of my knowledge, never reached me. But they said since none of them were returned, it was sent to off to collection.

I suppose I could have recieved something in the mail and not realized what it was. I mean, I get so much paperwork from OHSU and all it's little sub-OHSU titled companies that it is hard to keep track of everything. But this bill just pisses me off because, either way, someone dropped the ball. And whether or not it was me or them, the end result is that I'm now another $400 in debt with little chance of getting caught up in the foreseeable future. This whole post-cancer medical/insurance headache almost makes all that chemotherapy I got seem like a trip to a day spa. I'm just so sick and tired of dealing with all this medical billing bullshit. I swear, if I could pay the whole thing off with a series of un-medicated bone marrow biopsies I probably would.

-I'd like to shout out to Kevin Everett, the NFL player that suffered the severe spinal injury this last weekend. I can only hope that is future is brighter than the doctors fear it might be. I can't imagine the pain, both mental and physical, that's in store for his recovery. My heart goes out to him and his family.

-9/11. Six years later. What a fucked up day that was. I still remember it. I don't really know what else to say about it without sounding stupid, so I'll just say my heart goes out to those who mourn this day the most.

-The Bengals won their season opener. Yay.

-I looks like Mom, Karly, and I have been approved for a new apartment here in Renton. It's ok, but there's things I don't like about it. I knew I wasn't gonna be 100% happy about it, so that's ok. I'm just glad it's right next to the big Safeway. Now it's on to packing and moving. Fun stuff.
